Training description:

Seminar allows you to learn about the concept of unconscious anxiety, which is one of the basic pillars of the ISTDP approach. The ability to diagnose the level of anxiety, determine the threshold of its tolerance, identify defense mechanisms that hinder the regulation of anxietyare key to guiding the patient on the path to unlocking the unconscious .

The content of the training:

place of fear in human nature
the ways of channeling anxiety
neurobiological regulation of anxiety
the influence of defense mechanisms on the processing of anxiety
assess the ability to regulate anxiety (healthy / unhealthy)
patient’s mistakes and therapist’s mistakes in coping with anxiety
somatic problems as a result of chronic anxiety

Tobias Nordqvist is a great teacher and a very modest and inspiring person. His model of denial gives us (ISTDP practitioners) an additional tool to work on syntonic defenses by dealing with the inner denial that underlies them. The lecture was especially helpful for me in jotting down techniques to internalize through conscious practice.

I have very much enjoyed several training videos from Sentio. I recently watched “the neurobiology of guilt and its psychotherapeutic aspects” and was very inspired by it. I find it meaningful to deepen my theoretical knowledge, partly from interest but also as a help in my clinical practice. Here I believe the training videos fill a gap within the community of ISTDP. In Monicas presentation, I especially enjoyed how she described the function of guilt and shame. It’s wonderful how she is able to integrate different perspectives, the neurobiology, the theoretical and the clinical perspective with examples from different contexts. Sometimes I had difficulties following the thread/shifts to different topics within the presentation, but that was compensated by Monicas ability to reach through the screen.
